Profile
After a few years she left the film business to raise her family and became a freelance portrait and landscape photographer. This led her to begin experimenting with different mediums. When she touched her first paint brush to canvas she realized there was no turning back and found under painting tonal values a natural transition after so many years of printing her photography.
"I tried painting in the style of the old masters, under painting in Burnt Sienna oil paint first and then layering the colours on top of the values placed. Initially I began with realism, experimenting with still life and environmental portraits. I enjoyed the pursuit of authenticity. "
In 2007 Sian moved to Ontario, where she continues to paint. When in her studio she uses the slow drying medium of oil paint to re-create the poetry within the land, people and animals that she has been inspired by.
